This morning, May 11, Pope Leo XIV led his first Regina Coeli prayer from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, before the attentive eyes of hundreds of faithful from around the world.
On this day, dedicated in a special way to the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Holy Father prayed for priestly and religious vocations, encouraging young people to be brave and respond to God’s and the Church’s call “to answer the call of love from the One who loves them.”
He also recalled Pope Francis’ invitation for the Church to welcome and accompany young people along their vocational journey.
NEVER AGAIN WAR! 1h1n28
After the Marian prayer, the Holy Father recalled a key historical date: May 8, the day World War II ended 80 years ago, having caused 60 million deaths.
“In today’s dramatic scenario of a ‘piecemeal’ third world war, as Pope Francis has often said, I too address the powerful of the world, repeating this ever-relevant appeal: ‘Never again war!’
I carry in my heart the suffering of the beloved Ukrainian people. Let everything possible be done to achieve true, just, and lasting peace as soon as possible. May all prisoners be freed, and may the children return to their families.”
The Holy Father also mentioned the conflict in the Middle East:
“I am deeply saddened by what is happening in the Gaza Strip. Let the fire cease immediately! Let humanitarian aid be given to the exhausted civilian population and all hostages be released.”
THE MIRACLE OF PEACE 5y1t2r
Leo XIV also expressed satisfaction over the announcement of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, with the hope that “through negotiations, a lasting agreement can soon be reached.”
Recalling the many other conflicts around the world, the Roman Pontiff concluded his address with a heartfelt plea to the Queen of Peace “to present it to the Lord Jesus and obtain for us the miracle of peace,” he said.
